Practical takeaway: During a new moon, focus your effort on the hour around dawn and dusk. During a full moon, either commit to the night bite or expect the morning window to be slower and fish deeper structure during the day.

  3. Check the water temperature for your target species. If it's in the species' feeding sweet spot, the moon phase gets to actually express itself. If the temp is way off, no moon table can save the trip.
  4. Match your window to photoperiod. The exact minutes of civil twilight at your latitude are when feeding peaks — plan to be on your spot 30 minutes before.
  5. Adjust for wind, clouds, and clarity. Overcast with a light chop extends the bite. Bluebird calm shortens it. Clarity decides your lure.
